That's why I have great respect for the many terrific pianists here on YouTube who perform without the aid of a backing track. Solo piano exposes oneself completely - no drums or bass to hide behind or help maintain the tempo. My style of playing tends toward the spontaneous. I hear in my head what I want to do, and attempt it, not knowing if I'm going to pull it off or not. Most of the time I fall somewhat short, but it's usually close enough to be satisfying to the listener. Every once in a while I hit it, then it's satisfying to me. I stumble once or twice in this video, but for me, it's more about expression and creativity through music and reaching out toward the limit of what's possible. In making this video, I was fortunate to establish a relationship with the MODARTT Company, makers of PianoTeq 3, who supplied me with the latest version of their software Piano created through software modelling. This amazing software is only about 17 MB yet delivers a sound comparable to the mega gigabyte sampled pianos. Of course any software piano (modelled or sampled) will have its limitations, but I did connect with the playability of Pianoteq and I think that is evident in this video. What I really like about Pianoteq is the "tweakablilty". There are so many different settings to adjust that the possibilities are unlimited. For this video I have used Pianoteq piano settings as suggested by the engineers at Modartt. I am running Pianoteq V.3 on a P4 with 512 RAM as a VSTi through Reaper.
